Got Puppy Problems?
Only a few things are cuter than a happy, playful puppy! Unfortunately, that cuteness often distracts pet parents from significant behavioral issues that their pup is developing. Here are some tips and an training tricks if your young dog struggles from overexcitement, separation anxiety, or social issues:
Jumping Pups
Use a no touch, no talk, no eye contact method.
Project calm leadership energy from day one.
Pups with Separation Anxiety
Avoid reuniting with your pet using anger, treats, or too much affection. Anger increases anxiety, while treats and affection encourage bad behavior. Use relaxed energy to help them calm down.
Practice training from a distance so that your pup gets used to behaving while you’re not nearby.
Pups with Leash Issues
Make sure that your pup’s head goes into the leash willingly (treats are a great motivator).
Use treats to invite your pup’s nose—and his whole body—to follow you on the leash.
Anti-Social Pups
Choose a quiet dog park to start introducing your pup to other dogs. A calm experience will be a positive experience.
Remember to reward your puppy for good behavior around other dogs.
